NASHVILLE – Titans Coach Brian Callahan held a press conference on Monday at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park, one day after his team's 30-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Next up, the Titans travel to face the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.
Here's a look at the hot topics from today's presser:
-Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie will miss time with a groin injury, per Callahan, and he could end up on Injured Reserve. "We'll probably miss him for some weeks at this point," Callahan said of Awuzie. "It's significant enough. What that timeline is, remains to be seen."
-Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons suffered an elbow injury against the Packers and is "day to day."
-Callahan said rookie Jarvis Brownlee Jr. will be counted on to step up in Awuzie's absence, and he indicated cornerback Tre Avery could be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
-Callahan said he's not ready to make a decision on who will start at right tackle moving forward. On Sunday, Jaelyn Duncan replaced a struggling Nicholas Petit-Frere in the game. "At the core of the game yesterday, Nic played well enough," Callahan said. "But his three bad plays were real bad plays, and that's sort of what the issue is, the consistency." Callahan said he wants to get through a week of practice before deciding who will start against the Dolphins.
-Asked about the No.1 thing the Titans need to get done to start winning football games, Callahan quickly responded: "Not turn the ball over. That's as clear as can be. We're last in the league in turnover margin – we're minus seven – and that doesn't count the blocked punts."
-Asked more about the offensive line later in the presser, Callahan said left tackle JC Latham "has played pretty well," and he said he thinks Peter Skoronski "has played pretty good" at LG. Callahan said he believes center Lloyd Cushenberry "has done a nice job." The issues have been on the right side, Callahan said. "The right side has had struggles the last few weeks, and we have to find a way to help that and fix that."
