PRESEASON WINNING STREAK AT LP FIELD: With their victory over the Cardinals, the Titans extended their preseason home winning streak to 10 games.
TITANS TOTAL FIVE TAKEAWAYS: The Titans recorded three interceptions and recovered two Cardinals fumbles for a total of five takeaways in the game. They are plus-three in turnover ratio through three preseason games.
LOCKER'S NUMBERS: Starting quarterback Jake Locker's final statistics for the evening included 20 attempts for 11 completions, 134 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 109.2 passer rating. He played the entire first half and one series in the third quarter before giving way to Matt Hasselbeck.
BIG PLAYS EARLY ON DEFENSE: The Titans delivered a two big plays on defense on their first two downs. Defensive end Kamerion Wimbley notched an eight-yard sack of John Skelton, followed by an interception and 24-yard return by safety Michael Griffin.
FIRST-ROUND PICKS CONNECT: The last two first-round picks for the Titans provided the first score of the day for the Titans. Jake Locker, the eighth overall pick in 2011, completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Wright, the 20th pick in 2012. Wright led the Titans in the game with four receptions for 44 yards.
MARIANI LEAVES WITH LEG INJURY: At the end of a 14-yard punt return in the first quarter, returner Marc Mariani suffered a compound fracture of his left leg. Head coach Mike Munchak disclosed after the game that Mariani already was in surgery and would be lost for the season.
LOCKER AND WASHINGTON CONNECT: Early in the second quarter on a third-and-five, Jake Locker and Nate Washington connected on a 28-yard touchdown pass. As a rookie in 2011, Locker completed three of his four touchdown passes to Washington.
HUGE CATCH BY COOK: In the second quarter, tight end Jared Cook made an athletic, leaping grab of a 35-yard pass from Jake Locker. Cook, now in his fourth NFL season, ranked second in the NFL among tight ends in 2011 with a 15.5-yard receiving average.
A PAIR OF SACKS FOR WIMBLEY: Defensive end Kamerion Wimbley notched a pair of big sacks in the first half. He posted an eight-yard sack of John Skelton on Arizona's first play, and in the second quarter, he dropped Kevin Kolb for a six-yard loss.
ANOTHER STRONG FIRST QUARTER FOR DEFENSE: For the second consecutive week, the Titans defense allowed only two first downs in the first quarter.
McCARTHY LEADS THE CHARGE: Starting middle linebacker Colin McCarthy led the Titans with seven tackles and two interceptions. Playing through the first series of the third quarter, he ended his evening by intercepting a Kevin Kolb pass and returning the ball 31 yards for a touchdown. McCarthy leads the NFL in the preseason with three total interceptions (through games of Aug. 23).
BATSON'S THREE-FOR-ONE: Reserve kicker Will Batson was sent out to attempt a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. He made it, but the Titans were whistled for a holding penalty to negate the play. The same thing happened on the next attempt from 35 yards. Finally, his 45-yarder went through the uprights without a penalty being called.
HARPER FLIPS OUT: In the fourth quarter, Jamie Harper provided the game-winning score with a 16-yard touchdown run. The 233-pound reserve running back celebrated in the end zone with a forward flip.
PAIR OF ROOKIES NOTCH SACKS: Two rookie defensive linemen notched their first sacks of the preseason. Scott Solomon, who was drafted in the seventh round out of Rice, dropped Kevin Kolb in the third quarter, and defensive tackle DaJohn Harris, an undrafted free agent signee out of Southern California, sacked Ryan Lindley in the fourth quarter.
WOODS STEALS SPOTLIGHT ON RETURN TEAM: Undrafted rookie receiver D.J. Woods provided one of the highlights of the evening with a 51-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter.
NEW-LOOK LP FIELD: Titans fans were treated at the game to a new-look LP Field. During the offseason, the stadium had $27 million in renovations. The improvements included new video boards, high-definition LED ribbon boards, a new sound system and elevators to the upper deck.
MOMENT OF SILENCE: Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held at LP Field in memory of former Titans running back O.J. Murdock, who died of a self-inflicted gun wound on July 30. Murdock's family was invited to the game and was on the field during the moment of silence.
OUT OF ACTION: Titans players not in action against the Cardinals due to injury included cornerback Terrence Wheatley, tackle Mike Otto and defensive end Dave Ball.
