INDIANAPOLIS – Titans running back Derrick Henry is scheduled to become a free agent next month.
Here at the NFL Combine, General Manager Ran Carthon and new coach Brian Callahan were asked about Henry and his status moving forward.
"Derrick and I had a good conversation on the way out, and he knows where we are, and we know where he is," Carthon said. "I think you guys that have been around know that we don't really talk about a player's contract status in public, but we'll be well positioned to do whatever we need to do, and when those conversations need to be had, we'll have them with Derrick and his team."
Henry ran for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns in his eighth season with the team in 2023.
At the Pro Bowl, Henry said he planned to let the situation play out.
"Any player would want to play for the organization they started with their whole career," Henry said. "I think that's a very unique and special situation, for that to be able happen. The whole (coaching) change, I don't know all the details or what they're thinking, or the plan for the team, or how they want to move forward as an organization. So we'll have to see what happens, and I'll leave it up to God."
Callahan, who replaced Mike Vrabel back in January, said he has a lot of respect for Henry.
"I think there's a great relationship with him and the organization," Callahan said of Henry. "I know that he is always going to have the Titans in his heart. So, whatever that looks like moving forward, we'll keep working through it.
"I know what he means to the city and the team, and I am looking forward to getting to know him."
