FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Friday night lights are a big deal in Williamson County. This past Friday, the Tennessee Titans made their way to Centennial High School to practice on the field and under the lights.
Centennial High School, opened in 1996, is one of two public high schools located in Franklin. The school sits right off the freeway making it an ideal spot for fans, the team, and coaches to come watch practice. This is the second year that the Titans have made the trip from Nashville to Centennial.
When Titans football outreach coordinator Josh Corey reached out, the team got involved with the Titans two years ago. Cougars head coach Matt Kriesky said of this event, "Josh Corey reached out to me two years ago wondering if we would be interested in having this. Of course, we were thrilled that they thought about Centennial High School. This is a wonderful event for the community. In Williamson County, as a whole, there are a lot of Titans fans in the area. Also, it's great for our kids to come out and see the Titans practice on their home game field. So, it's a real special event for a lot of the folks and we really appreciate that."
Fans who were in attendance received navy blue Tennessee Titans t-shirts sponsored by Pinnacle. The stands were full, and people lined the fences as the Titans warmed up for practice. Mike Keith's booming voice was in full effect as he gave a play by play as the Titans ran drills, plays and went through situational things in preparation for the season. Mike Keith brought the excitement of the game from Nissan Stadium to the field at CHS.
It truly felt like a blast from the past for many of the fans, some who played on that football field and for those who currently play on that football field. The Centennial Cougars were up close and personal on the sidelines as they watched the team practice.
"Everybody knows the Titans are a big deal in the community and having them out here is fantastic, giving free t-shirts. The organization has been so good to us… supporting the field and the supporting the football team. It's just a first-class organization," said Centennial High School Principal Chris Hames.
"I enjoy watching this operation work and I appreciate what they do and all the stuff that goes into this. We are just thankful to have them out here. It's a great thing for our kids, for our players. They let our players have access to their players. They are great role models for our players."
After practice the team went around to sign autographs for fans, take pictures, and make small conversation. Taylor Lewan ran off the field and some excited fans ran right along with him. A little boy yelled, "Taylor give me your hat!" Taylor threw off his hat to the excited little fan who was then surrounded by his friends to get a look at his newest souvenir.
It's safe to say that the Cougars are big Titans fans now too.
