NASHVILLE – Michael Vick starred in college football and in the NFL at the quarterback position.
When he evaluates young quarterbacks heading into the league, he looks at more than just their skill set.
Vick said he likes what he's seen from Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, and he believes they're going to be stars at the next level.
So, Vick didn't hesitate when asked with the Titans should do with the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
"Take a quarterback," Vick said. "You take a quarterback. You have to take a quarterback. I can't say who, because it's up to (the Titans) and their evaluations. But two good ones are sitting right there. So, take one."
Vick, who was recently named head coach at Norfolk State, previously served as an analyst at FOX Sports.
He spoke to TennesseeTitans.com at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Vick said he likes the makeup and competitive nature of Ward and Sanders, who are competing with one another in workouts this offseason, and in the pre-draft process.
"I like the poise in both of them," Vick said. "When I look at a quarterback, I look at different qualities. People see the ability to run, the ability to throw. I am watching the poise and how you react under pressure, how you perform in the two-minute drill, on third downs. Do you make the conversion? Do you bounce back from a turnover? Can you throw two (picks) and come back and pull a game out? I am looking at the ultimate measure of a QB in that moment.
"I think those guys are game changers. I think they're generational talents. The things that they've learned over the years, the people they've been around, the mentors they have. You watch them on social media the way they push each other, they'll always be competitive, forever. So as long as that doesn't change, they'll both be in the film room and make sure … I'll meet you at the Pro Bowl, man, I'll meet you at the Super Bowl."
Vick played 13 seasons in the NFL from 2001-2015, primarily with the Falcons and Eagles. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection who threw for 22,464 yards and 133 touchdowns in his NFL career, while also rushing for 6,109 yards and 36 touchdowns. Vick was an All-America performer at Virginia Tech, and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
While Vick said he thinks the Titans should pick a quarterback in the draft, he also said he wouldn't give up on quarterback Will Levis just yet either. A second-round draft pick of the Titans in the 2023 NFL Draft, Levis is preparing for his third season after a pair of injury-shortened, and turnover-marred seasons.
"I like Will Levis," Vick said. "I am not a fan of giving up on quarterbacks. Everybody teaches different. So, you look at a guy being young with talent. I think in the end, if you have the talent it's going to be about what's in your heart and what you believe in when you step in the field. Are you not afraid to go out and fail? And if that's the case, you are going to be successful."
