NASHVILLE – The father of Titans cornerback Caleb Farley has been identified as one of the victims in an explosion overnight that leveled Farley's home in North Carolina.
Authorities said one person was killed and another injured in the explosion in the suburban Charlotte home. The deceased was Robert Farley, Caleb Farley's father. Robert Farley was 61.
Multiple reports say the explosion likely stemmed from a gas leak.
"What's most important is that we do everything that we can to support him, emotionally, teammates, coaches, organization," Titans Coach Mike Vrabel said. "Just shocking. But also, (we have) to focus on Caleb (Farley) and his family and what we can do to support them and be here for them."
Farley was not home at the time of the explosion but was at the property speaking with police early Tuesday morning.
Farley, 24, was a first-round pick of the Titans in 2021. He is currently on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list.
Robert Farley attended practices at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park in the past, and was also a regular for games at Nissan Stadium.
Running back Derrick Henry said on Tuesday he had spent time with Farley recently.
"I'm just praying for Caleb," Henry said. "We were probably the last ones in the locker room last night, just hanging around. I just found out the news, and we'll keep him in our prayers and we all send our condolences to him and his family. It's a tragic situation. I don't want to speak too much on it, because I don't know the details. I just couldn't describe the way he's probably feeling right now."
Farley lost his mother to breast cancer in 2018.
"I'll reach out to him. I couldn't imagine that happening," outside linebacker Harold Landry said of Farley. "I feel for him obviously and he'll be in my prayers. You just feel for him."
