NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Titans tight end Delanie Walker passed his physical and was removed from the physically unable to perform list in time to practice on a limited basis Monday.
Walker signed a four-year, $17.5 million contract as a free agent this offseason from San Francisco to replace Jared Cook, who left for St. Louis.
Walker had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the Titans wrapped up their offseason program and he started training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
The Titans eased Walker back into practice Monday, limiting him to individual and 7-on-7 work.
"It's a good start having him off the PUP and having him out here working out doing 7-on-7,'' coach Mike Munchak said. "He just did individual and 7-on-7 today, and then we'll ease him in tomorrow with a little bit more team work. It's great to have him working, and having Taylor Thompson back also, so we have two tight ends back.''
Whether Walker plays this preseason remains to be seen. The Titans have big plans for the tight end both in helping to block and as a passing option for quarterback Jake Locker.
Munchak said the Titans would make a determination later this week on whether Walker plays against the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday.
"We'll see how he progresses on Wednesday and Thursday to decide if it's worth him playing at all on Saturday,'' Munchak said. "We'll talk to him about it and kind of see where he's at and decide as a team what's the best thing. If he doesn't play this week, is it worth putting him in this other game with the offense for a couple drives?
"I hope he just progresses where there's no setbacks that his knee does respond well. If we think he needs to play or he wants to play maybe by Wednesday for this Saturday, or by Thursday, then we'll do that.''
NOTES: Several other Titans players missed practice with the linebacker position especially ravaged with injuries. In addition to Colin McCarthy (right hamstring), Greg Jones (ankle) and Zaviar Gooden (ankle), who have all been out an extended time, the Titans were without Akeem Ayers, who injured his right ankle in the second preseason game. Zach Brown sat out Monday with a sore foot, and middle linebacker Moise Fokou rested a sore knee. Scott Solomon, a defensive end who has played some as a rush linebacker, was held out due to concussion symptoms. ... WR Kendall Wright (right knee), safety Daimon Stafford (hamstring), fullback Quinn Johnson (hamstring), center Brian Schwenkie (left hamstring), receiver Marc Mariani (shoulder) and defensive tackle Sammie Hill (elbow) all sat out. ... TE Taylor Thompson (shoulder) practiced after missing last week.
