Day 3 of Titans Camp: Training Camp Observations

NASHVILLE – The Titans took the field for Day 3 of training camp on Friday at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Here's a look at what stood out:

-With rain and storms in Nashville, the Titans moved today's practice inside the team's indoor practice facility.

-It was a jam-packed session, with lots of action in here from the 1-on-1s, 7-on-7s and team periods. It was the most competitive practice of camp so far.

-Quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed his first six passes on the day, which gave him 17 straight completions in the 7-on-7 and team periods combined to start training camp. His first incompletion came on a ball thrown to receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, because cornerback Kristian Fulton did a nice job breaking the play up. Tannehill finished the day 12-of-14, and he made some really nice throws on the day, including a few while on the move.

-First-round pick Treylon Burks had another good day. He was feisty and competitive in drills, making some tough catches across the middle in 1-on-1s and the other periods. Burks ran a nice route on a sideline catch vs Caleb Farley in an early team period and he made three of catches in an early 7-on-7 period, including a 30-yard strike from Logan Woodside in the middle of the field.

-I noticed veteran receiver Robert Woods more on Friday than any practice since he's been with the team. Woods made a really tough catch across the middle in a team period, which drew a pretty good reaction from his offensive teammates. He caught two of Tannehill's first three passes in a 7-on-7 period later. It's clear Woods is feeling better each day, and he's showing up more and more.

-The early 1-on-1 period offered a ton of highlights, and I shot a lot of videos. Burks vs cornerback Roger McCreary was a battle won by Burks. But a number of players won vs some physical contact vs the DBs, and on plays downfield. Receiver Kyle Philips made a pair of catches, and so did Reggie Roberson Jr.. Joshua Malone made a tough grab. A lot of guys made plays, and I posted a video compilation at the end of this written piece that also includes some of the ones immediately below.

-Mason Kinsey and Racey McMath made nice catches on deep balls, and running back Dontrell Hilliard made a nice juggling catch in the 1-on-1s.

-Receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine looked smooth on a sideline catch in the 1-on-1s as well.

-Going to mention Malone again here, because he later made an impressive one-handed catch in a team period that was off limits to videos.

-Several players made tough catches across the middle in team periods. In addition to the Woods catch, tight ends Austin Hooper and Chig Okonkwo each made catches in traffic. Okonkwo, who fought off safety Amani Hooker to make a catch on Friday, has looked beastly early, and he's also put in extra work with Tannehill after practices, something the two did again on Friday.

-Running back Derrick Henry seems to be getting more work early in camp this year compared to a year ago. On Friday, Henry ripped off a pair of long runs, first behind right tackle Dillon Radunz and later behind left tackle Taylor Lewan.

-Cornerback Caleb Farley made a nice play when he broke up a pass intended for Malone on the boundary.

-Cornerback Greg Mabin had a nice break-up in a team period.

-Quarterback Malik Willis has had his moments. Willis ripped off a pair of nice completions before throwing really low on a ball intended for McMath.

-Tight end Thomas Odukoya from the Netherlands made three catches in a 7-on-7 period.

-Receiver Cody Hollister hasn't backed down from physical coverage, and he's made some tough catches.

-Kicker Randy Bullock made 8-of-9 field goals, makes from 29, 33, 39, 40, 40, 45, 50 and 51 yards, with his only miss from 53 yards. Bullock is now 16-of-17 in camp.

-Titans coach Mike Vrabel said the team's first practice in pads will be on Monday.

-Cornerback Shakur Brown, signed earlier in the day, practiced for the first time. He's been assigned No.38.

-Kicker Caleb Shudak, linebacker Monty Rice and tight end Tommy Hudson did not practice, as they're on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of camp.

Next practice: Saturday, 9:30 a.m.
