Catch Cally?: What Titans HC Brian Callahan Said About the Return of Chidobe Awuzie, Injuries, and More Before Wednesday's Practice

CatchCally

NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice.

The team is scheduled to practice from 12:45-2:05 p.m. today to prepare for Sunday's game at the Washington Commanders.

Some real quick highlights on what Callahan, aka "Cally", said before I head to practice:

-Callahan said a number of players will be given a rest day on Wednesday, perhaps more than normal.

-Running back Tyjae Spears, who missed Sunday's game in Houston, continues to work through the concussion protocol process, Callahan said.

-Tackle Leroy Watson, who has missed the past two games with a back injury, is now "day to day."

-The Titans designated cornerback Chidobe Awuzie for return on Wednesday. Callahan said he'll practice today, and the team will make a determination on him later this week. "Hopefully sooner than later," Callahan said of Awuzie's return to game action. "But we'll take this week for sure and see where he's at, and then go from there."

-Callahan adjusted the team's schedule for Thanksgiving week. The team will practice the next three days, but the timing of practices and meetings have been adjusted to accommodate players and coaches, and their families.

-Callahan said he's looking forward to spending time with his father, Titans offensive line coach Bill Callahan, on Thanksgiving. So, when's the last time the Callahan coaches, father and son, have been together for Thanksgiving? "Probably when I was 18, when I was in high school," Callahan said. "I haven't seen my parents on a holiday, Thanksgiving or Christmas, in quite some time. That should be nice."

-Callahan praised running back Tony Pollard, saying he runs like a big man, and has proven to be up for the workload for the team. "His physicality and toughness stands out," Callahan said of Pollard. "He's been incredibly productive."

-Callahan said the Titans face a big challenge facing Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Callahan said Daniels is so poised in the pocket, and he knows when to run. He doesn't take a lot of hits, Callahan said. "He's the driver of the (Commanders) run and pass game," Callahan said. "He's fun to watch, and his poise for a young player stands out the most to me."
