NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans receiver Kenny Britt underwent a scope of his right knee Wednesday, Titans general manager Ruston Webster said.
Webster confirmed the minor medical procedure during a media session after he and "Voice of the Titans" Mike Keith were guest speakers as the Nashville Sports Council hosted the Comcast Spotlight Sports Speakers Series at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel.
Webster said the fourth-year receiver has been recovering well from surgery to repair his torn ACL and MCL — injuries he suffered against Denver last September — and the procedure is expected to help Britt's comfort level and accelerate his comeback. Webster said Britt met with team physician, Dr. Burton Elrod, Wednesday.
Webster said the procedure is common with knee injuries because it helps clean up the area of the operation, but added the Titans are being strategic with its scheduling.
"It's almost become commonplace," Webster said. "It's not one of those things that was, 'Wow, we're having surgery.' It's very common, and if it helps his rehab process, it's well worth doing. Our goal is to have him play this year. You don't want to get into the middle of camp and (need to do something)."
Webster said Britt ran straight ahead during a recent workout and handled change-of-direction runs the following day. The procedure, he said, is expected to help Britt's swelling, but may cause a one- or two-week alteration in the original plan.
"He's doing well," Webster said. "He was changing directions the other day nicely. It's more of how his knee reacts after he does that."
Britt has been rehabbing the injury for nearly eight months. He said last week during his public stops on the 14th Titans Caravan that he was pleased with where he is to this point, but had experienced some swelling. Britt said he still has Tennessee's opener against New England on Sept. 9, or sooner, targeted for his return.
Britt entered the game against Denver as the AFC's leading receiver with 271 yards and had three touchdowns, but was lost for the rest of the season during a short catch-and-run against the Broncos.
The Comcast Spotlight Sports Speakers Series with Webster as the guest included a question-and-answer session with attendees, and Webster was asked about Britt's recovery.
"I don't know if he's going to be ready the first day of training camp or not," Webster said. "We'll just have to wait and see. I do think he'll be ready for the season, and if you remember, we went through this last year where he didn't play preseason games or played the last preseason game and was ready to go. We know when we're really going to need him — that's when we line up against New England."
