Kenny Britt was hoping for better news, but a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee will sideline him for the remainder of the 2011 season. |
Britt's right knee buckled following a short reception with 6:04 remaining in the second quarter as he tried to turn up field. He was dropped for a two-yard loss at Denver's 17-yard line and fumbled the ball as he went down.
"It's very unfortunate for him and for us," Munchak said. "He was off to a great start. He's a special player. He has a lot of work ahead of him, but he's young and we know that he will be back for us next year."
Munchak said Britt will have surgery on his knee in about a week after the swelling goes down.
"Kenny is a special guy. We've said that ever since we drafted him," Munchak said. "We saw that last year and you saw the start he was off to this year. He's a great weapon to have. It's very unfortunate for all of us, especially him."
Munchak said the Titans will look to sign another receiver this week, but admitted it will be difficult to fill Britt's void.
"It has to be a group effort. One guy can't come in and fill his shoes, but as a group we can," Munchak said. "We'll have to fill that void with a lot of people."
Britt had three receptions for 18 yards prior to the injury. He entered Sunday's game leading the AFC with 271 yards receiving.
