NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Cody White of Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) has been named the 2017 Tennessee Titans High School Coach of the Year after leading his football team to a perfect 12-0 season and winning the Division II Class AAA state championship.
Coach White outscored his opponents 442-120 overall and 99-27 in the postseason, including a 28-14 win over Montgomery Bell Academy in the Division II Class AAA BlueCross Bowl. The 2017 title marks Coach White's third consecutive state championship (2015, 2016 and 2017).
His football team currently ranks No. 6 in the nation, according to the most recent USA Today Super 25 national high school poll.
This is Coach White's first Coach of the Year honor.
"Coach White's body of work is incredible," said Josh Corey, Tennessee Titans Football Outreach Coordinator. "Brentwood Academy plays in one of the toughest classifications in the state. Their ability to win consistently, and the manner in which they do so, is very impressive. We got a first look at the team in our annual 7-on-7 Tournament. They took home the trophy then and they took it home again in the state championship game. We're proud to recognize such an outstanding team and coach."
As the 2017 Tennessee Titans Coach of the Year, White will receive a grant in the amount of $2,000 to benefit his football program, as well as an all-expense paid trip to the 2018 Pro Bowl in Orlando, Fl.
Coach White's selection also qualifies him for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award, honoring high school football coaches that display the integrity, achievement and leadership exemplified by the coach with the most wins in NFL history, Don Shula. The Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award winner – announced in January – receives $10,000 and his high school football program is awarded $15,000.
The Titans' High School Coach of the Year award is an extension of the High School Game of the Week and Coach of the Week programs. Each Coach of the Week (10 total) received a grant from the Tennessee Titans in the amount of $1,000 to benefit his school's football program. All 11 award winners – 10 Coach of the Week winners and the Coach of the Year – will be recognized during the Titans vs. Jaguars game on Sunday, Dec 31.
Through the Coach of the Week program, the Titans have donated more than $200,000 in grant funding to high school football programs across the state.
