Adams gave a $5,000 grant in honor of the partnership between the Martha O'Bryan Center and the Titans 2008 "Hometown Huddle" event, which was held at the center late last season..
"For many years, I have supported the efforts of groups such as the Martha O'Bryan Center and I trust that this grant will be utilized in a manner that will have a positive impact on the children served by your outstanding center," Adams said in a letter accompanying the grant check.
"The impact that your efforts have on these young boys and girls swill certainly have a positive influence on their lives for many years to come due to you center's tremendous efforts and services provided our area by the staff each and every day," Adams continued.
The Hometown Huddle was established in 1999 and partners each of the NFL's 32 teams with local United Way agencies. The goal of the Hometown Huddle event is to bring communities together through valuable partnerships and cultivate resources to make a sound difference in the lives of local youth. Proceeds of the grant will be used for a summer camp and the provisions that the Martha O'Bryan Center provides for the children.
Joining Titans staff members to deliver the grant to the Martha O'Bryan Center was Titans linebacker David Thornton, who was recently selected the Titans Walter Payton Award Winner as the team's Community Man of the Year. Thornton is a long-time supporter of the center and spear-headed the team's efforts among his teammates relating to the Hometown Huddle event.
"I've been fortunate to be a friend and supporter of the Martha O'Bryan Center since I've joined the Titans in 2006," said Thornton. "I believe in the values they stand for and what they represent. It's always good to see the Titans supporting organizations that invest in the lives of others."
Judy Gaither, volunteer manager at the Martha O'Bryan Center, accepted the grant on behalf of the hundreds of children served by the center, which is located within minutes of LP Field, home of the Titans.
"Our relationship with the Titans has been great," said Gaither "It takes a city to raise these kids, and we need them all. We are very grateful to Mr. Adams and the team and I'm pleased to accept this grant which will benefit the children at our upcoming summer camp!"
