NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans added speed and strength during the 2012 NFL Draft. More important, general manager Ruston Webster and coach Mike Munchak said, is that they added competition at multiple positions. Webster and Munchak believe that increased competition will make everyone better as they battle for roster spots and playing time on Sundays.
Here's a recap of the Titans' draft choices:
Round 4, 115th overall: CB Coty Sensabaugh, Clemson
Sensabaugh played multiple positions in the secondary at Clemson. The Titans think he has a good combination of speed (4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the combine) and knowledge of the game to quickly adjust to the NFL. Sensabaugh is a former prep star at Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tenn., and second cousin of seven-year pro safety Gerald Sensabaugh (Jaguars, Cowboys).
College stats: Made 17 starts and recorded 87 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions and 18 pass break ups over the course of 1,550 snaps in 52 career games. Sensabaugh peaked when opportunities increased for him in his senior season when he co-captained the Tigers.
Sensabaugh on advice about the draft that he received from his second cousin Gerald Sensabaugh:
"He taught me so much, I don't even know where to start. He taught me about the business part, how to be a man in the business, how to go about your business day in and day out, just everything. He's just a blessing, and I'm happy to have him in my corner."
Secondary coach Brett Maxie on Sensabaugh's versatility:
"I think speed can be utilized any place because that's something that you can't coach. He gives us flexibility. If we need him to match up outside based upon what we are doing, and his value is outside, then we will put him outside. If his value is more suited inside based on who we have outside then, absolutely, the quickness and speed will help you there. More importantly, especially when you are rushing defensive backs off the edge, you want someone to come off the edge that has some speed. He allows us to do that."
Assistant secondary coach Steve Brown on Sensabaugh's readiness:
"He is a guy that we believe when you watch him on film; there are certain times he shows great instincts in what he is doing. If you had told me that he had only started for one year, I would have been shocked because he is very athletic, he runs well, he sees things well, he can do a number of things, so he adds great depth to what we are trying to do. I think he has a chance to be a really, really good player for us."
