James Wilhoit is in his second year on the Titans coaching staff after joining the club in 2021.
During Wilhoit's first season with the Titans, kicker Randy Bullock made 26 field goals on 31 attempts (83.9 percent) and added 42 extra points on 45 attempts (93.3 percent). Bullock's 120 points ranked ninth in franchise history and were the most by a Titans player since 2017 (136 by Ryan Succop). The kicker registered a career-high three game-winning field goals.
A native of Hendersonville, Tenn., Wilhoit attended the University of Tennessee (2003-06), where he made 59 of 82 field goal attempts (71.9 percent) and booted 47 percent of his kickoffs for touchbacks over four years as the starting kicker. He finished as the school's second all-time leading scorer with 325 total points and capped his playing career by being named first-team All-SEC in 2006.
Following his collegiate career, Wilhoit signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a rookie free agent in 2007 and also played for the Arena Football League's Kansas City Command in 2012. Meanwhile, he served as a special teams intern at the University of Tennessee from 2010 to 2011.
Prior to joining the Titans, Wilhoit's professional endeavors primarily involved operating the renown Wilhoit Kicking Academy, which trains kickers and punters across Tennessee. The academy has a track record of developing many of the top high school players in the state, leading to scholarships at Southern Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Baylor, Maryland, Mississippi State and others.
Married to Carrie, he has a son, Jackson, and a daughter, Charlotte.
