NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kendall Wright is tired of answering the questions, and tired of watching from the sideline.
The Titans receiver is ready to return to action.
It sounds like this could be the week.
"I think there's no limitations on (Kendall) come Wednesday,'' Titans coach Mike Mularkey said on Monday.
Wright, who hasn't played – preseason or regular season –since suffering a hamstring injury early in camp, is keeping his fingers crossed as well.
"I hope so,'' Wright said on Monday. "I can't tell you right now, but we'll know this week."
He's champing at the bit.
"I feel like I haven't been out there for a real long time, and I haven't," Wright said. "I just have to keep doing what I have been doing so I can play. And I'll find out this week."
The Titans have clearly missed Wright on offense, which is ranked 24th in passing through three weeks.
Wright, in his fifth NFL season, was one of the stars of the offseason. While working primarily in the slot, he consistently made plays, and earned praise from his teammates, and coaches.
Then he suffered a hamstring injury early in camp. When he returned to practice earlier this month, he suffered a setback. After weeks of rehabbing the injury, Wright practiced last week, but the Titans held him out against the Raiders.
The Titans face the Texans on Sunday.
"We've missed him,'' Mularkey said of Wright last week. "Obviously, he's a very good player in the slot. That's important, especially on third down. That's really important in our no-huddle. Harry (Douglas) has done a nice job. That's what Harry's role has been, but that's what Kendall's specialty is, and we'd like to get him back. I mean we've wanted him – it's gone on for a long time.
"I think (getting him back) will help other positions. Delanie (Walker) – take a little pressure off of him. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure I had Kendall for a game, maybe two, dating back to the middle of last year. Really, to have a full force of your best weapons, we haven't had that yet and it'd be nice to have that. The sooner the better."
Wright, who had 36 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns last season, believes he can help as well.
In four NFL seasons, Wright has 251 catches for 2,828 yards and 15 touchdowns. Injuries have limited his success in recent years after a 94-catch, 1,079-yard season in 2013. Wright caught 57 passes for 715 yards and a career-high six touchdowns in 2014.
"I know what I am capable of, and I know what I can do,'' Wright said. "It is not fun (not playing). I want to get out there. I've been wanting to be out there."
