PHOENIX —** Jon Robinson has been in the general manager's seat for less than 15 months, and already he has a catchy name circulating among the team's fan base:
"Trader Jon."
Robinson earned it. Since taking over last January, he's already made five trades, from players to draft picks.
Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk has taken notice.
"I told him if I am ever going buy a horse again, he's coming with me,'' a smiling Strunk said of Robinson. "He's made some great moves."
So is Robinson zeroing in on trade No.6 involving one of the team's first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft? The Titans are scheduled to pick fifth and 18th in the first round, and Robinson has said since the start of the offseason he's "open for business."
"It will usually manifests itself here over the next few weeks," Robinson said. "You have some of those initial conversations and teams start to formulate their strategic game plan. I am sure that will probably pick up in the next couple of weeks, so we'll see."
Robinson has been busy at the NFL owners meetings here this week.
He said broad discussions about potential trades aren't uncommon among representatives from the league's 32 NFL teams. Right now, he said some teams are in the process of gauging interest.
Robinson also knows he has a reputation. Prior to last year's draft, Robinson traded the first overall pick to the Rams for a number of picks, including the 15th overall pick a year ago and a first-round pick for 2017 that ended up being the fifth pick overall.
On the first day of the draft, Robinson moved up to No.8 to take tackle Jack Conklin.
"With what we did last year, moving around in the draft, I think teams view us as an organization that is willing to position itself and move around in the draft,'' Robinson said. "We are not a team that is opposed to listening and having conversations about trying to put ourselves in a position to better the team.
"We are just looking to put ourselves in a position to help the team. If that means moving around in the draft, if it means sticking and picking, we are going to do what is best.
"We are just glad that we have those two picks and we are going to come away with two good football players in the first round if in fact we do keep those first two picks. But again, we are also not afraid to move (in a trade)."
