NASHVILLE – Season No.2 is in the books for Titans quarterback Will Levis.
"It was all over the place," Levis said of his 2024 season. "I feel like I've gone through the gamut of what an NFL quarterback can experience in a season."
So, what's next?
Right now, that remains to be seen for Levis, and the Titans, who currently have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and potential options in free agency.
"Well, we've got one quarterback under contract, the other two are free agents and we're in position to potentially draft a quarterback," Coach Brian Callahan said of Levis, and impending free agents Mason Rudolph and Trevor Siemian. "We're in position to, with the cap stability and flexibility we have, to potentially sign a veteran quarterback. And, so, we're going to explore every avenue to do that.
"There's a lot of ways you can do this process and we'll unturn every stone to find out what the best one is for us. There's a lot of work to be done between now and those decision-making times. But yeah, I think it's very clear that that's a position that we have to do our due diligence on and our work on both in free agency and into the draft."
A second-round pick of the Titans in the 2023 NFL Draft, Levis completed 190-of-301 passes for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, 12 interceptions in 2024, with a passer rating of 81.4. He added 183 rushing yards on 45 attempts.
Levis missed games with a shoulder injury, however, and he was ultimately benched because of a rash of mistakes.
While Callahan talked about other options available, he also pointed out ways Levis could improve. Cleaning up the turnovers is a big part of it, Callahan said.
"Will has to keep his same mindset," Callahan said. "He's got to keep getting ready to play. He's got to keep getting better. I still believe in the tools that he has and his ability to be a good quarterback. But, I was very straightforward with him that it's very likely that there will be somebody else in here competition wise at the very minimum. So that's a position that we'll be looking at."
Callahan also put some blame on himself for not getting the most out of his quarterbacks.
"There's some things for sure that I think he can improve on that will help him a lot. And I like his plan that he's got put together here for the offseason and what he's going to go do and where he's going to go work. That part is good. I think he'll see some benefit from it," Callahan said. "And a lot of that, it all ultimately falls on me, too. I look at it as someone who I've got a really good expertise for the quarterback position. I feel really good about my ability to coach it and coach offensive football. And I'm disappointed in myself some, too, that I couldn't find a way to get more or better out of the position as a whole. Will and Mason included. And that's one of the things that I got to look at and find out where I can be better for what's next. There's some professional pride involved in that, that I have to take a good look at and see where my shortcomings were in that process, too, because obviously I have a hand in it, too."
Immediately after the game on Sunday, Levis said he plans to work to improve.
He reiterated that on Monday as he cleaned out his locker alongside teammates.
And, he said he wants to be the team's starting quarterback in 2025, and beyond.
Levis, by the way, has two years remaining on his rookie contract.
"Yeah, oh my goodness," Levis said. "I mean, I want to be the quarterback for this team the rest of my career. I can't control who makes those decisions.
"I feel like I'm the quarterback for this team and I can bring us to the levels we want to get to, but it's up to (the team) to make that decision."
