Titans Tight End Josh Whyle Plans to Wear Guardian Cap During 2024 Season

NASHVILLE – Titans tight end Josh Whyle plans to wear a Guardian cap over his helmet this season, starting with Sunday's season opener against the Bears.

It sounds like Whyle, who previously suffered a pair of concussions, could be the only Titan set to wear one to start the season.

"Just for my own safety," Whyle said. "Can't afford to get another one, and I want to be out there playing on Sundays."

Whyle and other NFL players began wearing Guardian Caps, soft-shell pads attached to their helmets, when the NFL mandated certain position groups wear them in practice ahead of the 2022 season.

The extra-padded caps were also worn across the NFL this offseason.

Several other players across the league have indicated they'll continue to wear the Guardian Cap during the regular season.

Whyle plans to wear a new helmet that is designed to help reduce concussion issues as well.

Whyle's Guardian Cap has a Titans logo on each side of it, different from the plain navy blue ones players wear in practice.

"To be honest with you, I don't really care how it looks, as long as it keeps you safe," Whyle said. "It's a decision as I was coming back (from the concussion). I got a new helmet as well, and I just think the extra protection, if they are allowing it, I think it's great. Why not?

"That's kind of what I was asking myself: Why not do it?"
