NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Titans and TeamSmile joined forces to provide a day of free dental care and instruction Tuesday at Nissan Stadium.
TeamSmile is a non-profit organization that has created partnerships with professional sports teams, local dentists, dental organizations, dental schools, and area volunteers to help promote the importance of dental care. TeamSmile was founded in 2007 with the mission to facilitate partnerships between dental professionals, professional sports teams and underserved communities.
Now in its fourth year with Titans, the event met the needs of approximately 300 middle school students from two LEAD public schools – Southeast and Cameron.
Each year, participating schools are selected strategically by TeamSmile with the knowledge that in areas of economic hardship, oral healthcare is not seen as a priority in the spectrum of preventative healthcare needs.
Approximately 92 percent of LEAD Public School students qualify for free and reduced lunch, with 83 percent of their study body identified as an ethnic or racial minority.
During the event, more than 150 dental professionals and volunteers provided dental care and instruction, ranging from basic exams and teeth cleaning to extractions. Each student left with a goodie bag full of oral healthcare products.
Titans players, cheerleaders and TRAC were also be in attendance to interact with students as they received treatment and instruction.
