NASHVILLE – Ryan Stonehouse and Chase McGrath go way back.
The two met in their freshman year of high school, and they even competed against each other back then at Mater Dei (Calif.) High.
Stonehouse ended up taking more of a liking to punting, and his path led him to Colorado State and eventually to the NFL, with the Tennessee Titans. McGrath specialized in kicking, and his journey led him to the University of Tennessee.
Now, the two specialists are reuniting to host a football camp in Nashville on June 15 at Lipscomb Academy.
Stonehouse, one of the top punters in the NFL, said they want to help show young punters and kickers the way, no matter where they are in their own journeys.
"We wanted to create an individual experience for anyone who wants to sign up," Stonehouse said. "The point is we want to walk through experiences that my buddy Chase and I have gone through, whether that be recruiting in high school, the drills, the techniques, everything we've learned along the way. And we want to be able to share with guys."
At the one-day camp at Lipscomb, for ages 10 and up, the camp will include:
- Individualized film breakdown
- NFL/college game film study
- Competition and camp champions
- On-field instruction and drill work
- Recruiting seminar with Q/A
- Meet and greet after camp
Stonehouse said he and McGrath will do a film breakdown of each camper, and they'll share feedback on what each individual should work on, whether they're in high school or college, or just getting started.
The experience will be tailored to each athlete.
"What we really want to accomplish is just creating that personalized, individual experience where we can touch each kid there," Stonehouse said. "Our philosophy is: Let's make it like they're doing a private lesson, but treat it like a camp so we can do more things."
