Ready for Bye Week and to Get Back to Work

Ah, the bye week. I won't have too much going on, but believe me, the bye week is always welcomed! While a lot of the players and coaches will be going around the world to exotic locations soaking in the time off, me, I'm just going to go back home to North Carolina, relax with my family and give my body a rest. Speaking of North Carolina, my Tar Heels will have a tough test this weekend against Virginia Tech, so I'm going to have to get with Vincent Fuller and put a friendly bragging rights wager on that game!

I'm usually not a fan of bye weeks this early in the season but this year, I think it's pretty good timing considering the training camp that we had, the four preseason games and three games into the regular season. It's a chance for us to get a good much-needed break. I'm definitely going into the break with a good feeling at 2-1 as opposed to 1-2 considering our play against the Saints. After reviewing the film from the game, it was obvious how dominant our defensive line was throughout the entire game, which made things a lot easier for us on the back end. But at the same time, our defense wasn't as sharp as it needed to be, and there are some areas we need to improve in if we want to be a championship team. Nonetheless, we did a great job against an explosive offense and one of the more dynamic players in the league in Reggie Bush in just swarming to the football. Whenever you play against players like that who have big-play potential on any given play, it takes 11 guys really being accountable and relentless. We have those guys. Everyone on our defense hustles and flies to the football, which makes for a lot of fun out there.

Even though I'll be away from football for the next few days, the Atlanta Falcons will still be on my mind and I think the majority of my teammates feel the same way. In the locker room and on the field, we feel something brewing here and we want to continue to work at becoming a better team and keeping up that rhythm, not taking too much of a break off.

I'm going to enjoy the next few days off, but my teammates and I will be eager to get back to work come next week.
