Any reluctance to put your body on the line like you did on the six-yard touchdown run?
I didn't really think that I was going to get front flipped. That wasn't my expectation there, but I mean it happens. It's all good, I was just trying to get in the endzone.
What's the next step for you? Where do you want to go this week, especially to practices with the Saints?
Yeah, I mean we have joint practices with the Saints. It's a great opportunity to compete and continue to grow within the offense, continue to help the young guys get up to speed as quickly as possible. Every rep I get, just go out there and make the most of it and continue to get comfortable in the QB room. We have great guys with Brandon Allen, obviously Brock Purdy, and Tanner (Mordecai). We got a great group of guys and (Brian) Griese is leading the charge as well. Really enjoying my time in Cali. Just taking it one day at a time and improving every time on the field and just trying to grow and get more comfortable within the scheme.
What was it like having Klay Kubiak calling plays? Was Kyle (Shanahan) interacting at all with you throughout the game?
No, it was Klay's (Kubiak) show. He did a great job. Clear communication with getting play calls in early. Obviously, each team that you go to have different nuances of how they call plays and communicate with the quarterback. I thought Klay (Kubiak) did a great job.
So, he speaks directly to you in the radio or does it go through (Brian) Griese?
No. It goes from Klay (Kubiak) straight to us.
Does (Brian) Griese have any access to you guys?
Not on the field. Only one person can communicate in the headset. But he's right next to us when we are on the sideline.
In practices you have Kyle (Shanahan), right?
Yes.
I guess you have had a lot more time to adjust to the playbook than your last team with the Vikings. That was the famous cram session. Was it nice to be able to take the field knowing the terminology with this amount of time?
Yeah, it was. You're not taking the field like you're just doing a pop quiz on a Sunday afternoon. So, it was good. It was good to get out there. Obviously, preseason you're going to keep things basic and see how guys can go out there and execute the offense. I thought we did a good job in moving the ball in the second half. In the first half too. Couple plays obviously we left out there and we want to make those plays and guys wanted to make those plays. That's where we're going to grow and clean up. It was great to hit the field and know the offense having been in it for several months since OTAs and everything. Each time you step on the field is an opportunity to get better.
