NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans will have a new guy calling the shots on offense in 2019 – Matt LaFleur has been hired as head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers announced the hire on Tuesday night. LaFleur said his goodbyes at Saint Thomas Sports Park earlier in the day.
LaFleur served as offensive coordinator for the Titans under head coach Mike Vrabel last season. He interviewed for the head coaching job in Tennessee before Vrabel was hired.
Under LaFleur, the Titans ranked 25th overall (312.4 yards per game) in offense in 2018 -- 29th in passing (185.9 ypg), and 7th in rushing (126.4). The Titans finished last season ranked 27th in scoring offense.
The development means quarterback Marcus Mariota will have yet another offensive coordinator – his fifth, as he heads into his fifth season.
LaFleur joined the Titans in 2018 with nine previous years of NFL coaching experience. He spent the 2017 season as the Rams offensive coordinator and helped Los Angeles rank first in the NFL in scoring and 10th in total offense.
LaFleur spent two seasons (2015-16) as quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons. While with the Falcons, quarterback Matt Ryan earned NFL MVP honors. Prior to that LaFleur spent four seasons (2010-13) as quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins and one season coaching quarterbacks for Notre Dame (2014).
