Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio's Conference Call to Nashville Media

(on David Garrard running the ball and if that is something to integrate in the game plan)

It's certainly something he likes to do and something he's good at. We'll continue to look for opportunities to take advantage of the things he's good at.

(on the possibility of spreading out the offense)

I don't think it's any different than other teams that like to be physical and run the ball up inside. I think Tennessee itself is a good example of it. They've got plays designed to get their guys on the edges as well. I think it's just part of what you need to do offensively to be diverse and make people defend the field. It was good to see Mike Thomas out there on the field and have him make a couple of plays and make an impact for us.

(on how the Titans look different without Albert Haynesworth)

They're still, (Jim) Washburn, I think he's one of the fine d-line coaches in the league and does a great job with his group. Those guys play hard, they know what they're doing and they do it well. It's a good group. Without Albert, obviously he's a dominant player himself, but I think the group remains very strong.

(on if the defense is doing things different this year with Chuck Cecil than last year with Jim Schwartz)

No, not really. I think everybody has their own style, their own thoughts that they want to add to it. But still pretty good, still pretty strong.

(on his impressions of the Titans wide receivers)

I think they're a good group. I think that people will start to figure that out. We look at the film so it's easier to see it. To me they're good football players and they have a pretty deep group. They have some depth there. Good size guys that can run. So I think it's a good group.

(on if he's surprised the Titans are 0-3)

Yeah, they could be 3-0 just as easy. I think that's the nature of this league and how competitive and how close things are. They're a good football team.

(on how difficult it is as a coach to be a couple plays away from a win and not get the victory)

I think each guy has to figure out how he wants to handle it. Certainly that's part of the deal that comes with this job.

(on if Reggie Nelson is the nickel or if he's sorting through options)

We have some depth there. We're able to get him involved last week there and some snaps. So we'll see as we put together the plan for this week. Certainly that was an option that we went to last week.

(on if the team will be alright with Sean Considine and Eben Britton being injured)

**

Well, I was pleased with our ability to try to fight through some of the adversity that we faced during the course of the ball game. In terms of injuries and guys and where they're going to be, we'll learn more as the week goes on and know where we are later in the week. But I think right now we're kind of cautiously optimistic on several of the guys that were banged up during the game.

(on the veteran leadership Torry Holt has brought to the team)

He's been terrific. He's first in, last to leave kind of guy. He's got great work ethic, tremendous presence. First thing he did after the game last week, which kind of speaks to the leadership he brought in, is guys were excited because we played well and got a tough win on the road in the division. Right away he calmed some of the young guys down and said, 'hey, let's act like we've been here before. Understand when we get home we need to get ready for the next one.' You know, just real solid. A real solid veteran presence there and he's been a good addition for us.

(on the Colts' ability to start the season well despite any offseason transitions)

It is remarkable they've been able to do it. You know, they really could have been 0-2. We had a shot and ended up losing 14-12. Miami certainly had a shot and the Colts end up pulling that one out. So, got to give them credit, they're making the division chase them again and that's something they've been able to do over the last seven or eight years.

(on if Brian Iwuh is back in good standing)

Yes.

(on how he classifies his defense as 3-4, a hybrid that plays some 3-4 or a mystery)

I'm really not concerned with that part of it. I think with us we try and deploy our guys in the best possible way to get offenses slowed down. We've gone up against some very strong offenses to start this season and we've had some good moments and some moments where we need to be a whole lot better. Right now we're just trying to work our group and we're looking for more consistency in everything we're doing.

(on if Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey are showing progress)

Yeah, some progress.

(on why Rashean Mathis always seems to play well against the Titans)

I just think he's a good football player. I think good football players play good football and particularly play well in big games. Certainly divisional games are huge for us. He's played well against all of our division opponents really.

(on having possibly 40 new players on the team and what challenges that presents)

**

Yeah, we've got a bunch. I don't know if it's quite that many. I think for me I'm excited about the group that I'm working with and the work ethic that they're showing, the commitment that they're showing. Those are the things that I get excited about. We're working hard. We know we've got some younger players that need to develop and they're working hard and they are getting better. We need to just keep grinding at it.

(on how Maurice Jones-Drew has handled being the feature running back this season with Fred Taylor gone)

I think that part's a lot easier than the other part. I think being patient while he's behind a great player in his own right. I think that's a credit to the young man that he is in terms of handling the competition with class and being there as a teammate. He continues to exemplify the things you want in a football player: ultra competitive, loves to compete, plays hard every snap he's involved in the football game and really cares about this football team. He's a good football player for us.

(on what he's talked to his guys about with the non-sellouts and the other distractions with the team and the city)

The right thing for them to do is to come to work and focus on our preparation for the upcoming game. I think we are very active in the community and we'll continue to do that. That lead is started by Mr. (Wayne) Weaver and his wife, Delores. They're tremendous, tremendous philanthropists in this area. A lot of players have foundations and what not and that's all great stuff, most of that is offseason. Players do get out on Tuesdays in the community, which I'm sure a lot of teams do around the league, but I just think from our standpoint we are a part of this community. Proud to represent the Jaguars and doing the best we can to put out a very good product on the field.
