It is amazing that Thanksgiving is already here. Thanksgiving is a special time because I get to be with my family and share it with them. After such a busy year, it is nice to slow down and enjoy Thanksgiving.
On the football side of things, I'm thankful for the big win by my alma mater, Ohio State, over Michigan. It was crazy to see that many points scored and that many yards amassed in a game between teams ranked number one and two. I can tell you this; I walked, jumped, and paced five miles up and down the sidelines at the Horseshoe. That game was a lot of fun. I was proud to be a Buckeye.
The day after Ohio State's big win, I flew back into Nashville so that I could continue to work on Governor Bredesen's new GetFitTN initiative. It is a statewide campaign aimed at getting Tennesseans to live healthier, more active lifestyles. I am excited to lend my time and name to this campaign because I'm really passionate about getting our state into shape. Tennessee ranks 48th in the country in overall health status. In all senses of the phrase, we are in a state of emergency.
Over the next couple months, I'm going to be traveling the state, encouraging Tennesseans to live a healthier life. I really believe in this initiative because I think it is so important to make good choices regarding your health. For more information, log onto www.GetFitTN.com.
With Thanksgiving here, it is going to be important for people to really think about making healthy decisions. For 30 minutes every day, it is important for people to be active and exercise. That can be as easy as going on a walk outside or playing football in the park. That means being active even on Thanksgiving.
It is also important to eat healthy. On Thanksgiving Day, eat breakfast! This will help to curb your appetite so that you don't stuff yourself later in the day. Throughout the holidays, be conscious of what you're eating. We need to get and keep Tennessee healthy!
Finally, let me commend the Titans for really playing hard lately. I was talking to former Titan Samari Rolle after the Ravens/Titans game and he told me that Coach Fisher really has the guys playing together. The offense is starting to click with Vince Young at quarterback. When you have a defense that is really taking advantage of opportunities and a running game that is getting it done, good things start to happen.
I stopped by the Titans complex after the Eagles win and it was good to see Coach Fisher smiling. If they keep playing like this and continue to get better, I think there are more smiles ahead.
