MOBILE, Ala. – After a trip to the East-West Shrine Bowl over the weekend, new Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi has made it to the site of the Senior Bowl.
Borgonzi began interviewing prospects here on Monday night, and in between the two practice sessions on Tuesday, he met with reporters.
Here's a look at some of the hot topics from his availability:
-Borgonzi discussed the recent front office additions made by the Titans – Dave Ziegler and Reggie McKenzie.
"I've known Dave, and I've known Reggie, for a long time," Borgonzi said. "Tremendous people, first of all, very respected in the business, tremendous evaluators. They will be a great sounding board for all of us – they've both been in the chair before. Just a ton of respect for them, and I think if you talk to people in the league, you'll hear the same thing about them. Just excited, and they will be a part of the whole process – the college, the pro, getting things aligned and organized. We're excited to have them."
Ziegler, hired as assistant general manager, spent the 2024 season as a personnel advisor for the Saints. He previously worked for the Raiders, Patriots and Broncos.
McKenzie, who interviewed for the GM job in Tennessee before Borgonzi was hired, is also joining the organization's personnel department. McKenzie previously served as a senior personnel executive for the Dolphins. He spent six years in Miami and was the Raiders' G.M. for seven years before joining the Dolphins. The University of Tennessee product spent nearly two decades working with the Packers before his move to the Raiders.
Neither Ziegler nor McKenzie has "officially" been announced by the team because of contract paperwork, but both Ziegler and McKenzie are here at the Senior Bowl, working for the Titans.
"They will be a great asset to the entire organization," Borgonzi said. "The more smart people we can get in here, with really good ideas, the better."
-Asked about the team's biggest needs heading into the draft and free agency, Borgonzi said "we have some holes to fill on the offensive line, that will be No.1."
"And then just depth level across the whole team right now," he continued. "Creating competition is going to be the biggest thing, whether it's through free agency, through the draft. There might be a guy that we sign off the street, a workout guy, but we want to build the fronts first, offensive and defensive line, and then build depth along the perimeter."
-Borgonzi and Titans officials met with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the East-West Shrine Bowl.
Borgonzi on Tuesday shared his thoughts on Sanders after the meeting.
"Really enjoyed talking to him," Borgonzi said. "Smart, engaging, confident kid. We had a great conversation with him. It wasn't that long, but it was the first opportunity that we had to really sit down and talk to him and, this is a process, so we look forward to talking to him again."
-Borgonzi said he's appreciative of all the support, and congratulatory texts, calls, or messages he's received since being named GM of the Titans.
"It's been very nice, people coming up and congratulating you," he said. "This is a relationship business, so even though I haven't worked with a lot of these guys here, you have conversations with them over the years. People have been very nice."
-Borgonzi said the Titans personnel department and scouting staff will begin 17 straight days of college meetings next week, when the team implements its new grading scale.
