DT DAVID HOWARD
(on where he thought he was going to be drafted)
**
I was hoping and praying for the best. I was kind of uncertain going into the process to be honest.
(on whether he plays end or tackle)
**
I do both. I do it all. I think that is a big part of what made me attracted to them, a little bit of versatility. I can do a little bit of both. I played a majority of tackle in college, but I'm definitely capable of doing both.
(on not playing as a freshmen)
**
I was actually recruited to Brown as a track athlete. I threw shot put and discus. I did that my freshman year, then I walked on to the team. I started focusing more on football. I did both for a while, but then I stopped track after my junior year and got pretty serious about football.
(on why he focused on football)
**
I was just having a lot more fun playing football. Track got kind of boring and old. The whole pro prospect didn't come into play until way after I quit track. I was having a lot more fun playing football and balancing both was tough with all the school work. I had to make a decision to sacrifice and drop track.
(on how difficult the transition is going to be from Ivy League to the NFL)
**
I will find out soon. There have been guys to do it before. That is a big part of my information gathering process before. I talked to a few Ivy guys that played in the league and they say it is a little bit of a shocker at first, but you get used to it quick.
(on what Ivy players he spoke with)
**
Desmond Bryant with the Raiders. He was a d-tackle at Harvard last year that got picked as a free agent by the Oakland Raiders. He ended up making the roster and he played in 10 to 11 games. He was getting a good amount of snaps. Right now he is listed as their starter. I talked with him and he gave me a little bit advice. [Zak] DeOssie who was our linebacker that graduated from Brown in 2007, I talked to him a little bit about the whole transition. I definitely feel I'm capable of doing it.
(on where he thinks he got noticed)
**
I wish I knew. I don't really care. They found me and that is all the really matters right now. I don't have an answer to that question.
(on the criminal incident)
**
I would rather not talk about that right now.
(on what his weight is)
**
I weighed in at both of my pro days at 293 and 294. I am consistently in between 290 and 295.
(on where he thinks they envision him)
**
I think an inside guy who can play outside. I think that is what they see me as.
(on what he knows about Coach Washburn)
**
No, to be honest the first time I talked with him was yesterday. I know he is a good D-line coach. I talked to my agent who said he knew people that spoke highly of him. I haven't done much research to be honest. This is a hectic process. The first time I heard from him was yesterday. I will be sure to do my research and kind of check him out.
(on what he knows about the Titans)
**
I know they have done well in the past. They are a solid team. To be honest, I do not know as much as I should. I did a lot of research on teams that came into the picture earlier on. Since they came into the picture kind of late, I wasn't able to do my due diligence and figure out a lot about the team.
(on when he graduates)
**
I graduated in December. My degree is in economics.
(on other teams showing interest)
**
I was actually in the process of accepting of free agent deal right before I got news of being drafted. I had a pretty solid amount of teams interested in me as a free agent, but the Titans stepped up to the bat. I guess they saw something in me and gave me an opportunity at being drafted, which I fully appreciated. I fully intend on making the best of it.
(on what teams were interested)
**
I had Oakland on the table. Baltimore Ravens were on the table also. Those were the two strongest. I also talked to Dallas, but Dallas ended up taking a d-tackle late. We never really wrapped anything up with them. Baltimore and Oakland were highly interested.
