Coach Fisher's Wednesday practice report

HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER, DEC. 10, 2008**

(On any adjustments being made to make sure the Texans do not have as much offensive success this time)

I don't know that you adjust, you just try to minimize gains. They're third in the NFL in total offense right now. That means they're up there with the Saints and the Broncos. They are very, very explosive. They're running the football, they're throwing it very well. [Steve] Slaton is having a great year so they're a much different team than we played earlier in the season.

(On what's been working for the Texans lately)

Everything's working right now. Their run game, their play-action passing game, the quarterback's completing 68 percent of his passes. Andre Johnson has 92 catches, 13 yards-per-catch, a bunch of touchdowns so they're a very talented offensive team.

(On the difficulty matching up with Andre Johnson)

The problem's not necessarily him. The problem is everybody else around him because the tight end is making a bunch of catches, the running back gets a checkdown and goes the distance, so, they've got a lot of weapons.

(On if it's a good thing to catch the Texans while they're on a winning streak)

Well, I mean it's our next opponent. We carry a respect level for our next opponent regardless. They put 500 yards of offensive up against the Packers in a game the Packers needed to win. They're different. They came here under a very difficult set of circumstances early in the season with the hurricane. They've gotten all those things put behind them for the most part and they're healthy and they're playing very well.

(On if he predicts a shootout as has been the case a couple previous Titans trips to Houston)

It's hard to predict how the game is going to go. I would assume it's going to be a close, stay-in-your-seat type of game just based on the way they've been playing. They were very impressive in the Monday night game against the Jaguars and they played the Colts until the end there. They're much improved. I'll perceive last week's game as their Championship game and this week as their Super Bowl. It's that kind of approach that I think they're going to take.

(On if Titans owner Bud Adams still looks at the Houston game as special because of the franchise's ties)

It's always special to him. I know he's looking forward to us coming down. This is a game that means a lot to him.

(On the importance of trying to wrap up home-field advantage this week with Pittsburgh and Indianapolis next on the schedule)

Well, we take them one week at a time. Our goal is to try and go out and do whatever we can to win this ball game. If we get the ball game, then we'll see what the scenario is and we'll go from there.

(On if he sees similarities between Steve Slaton and Chris Johnson)

Yeah, they're similar in that one is a 5.0 [yard] per carry and the other is a 4.9 [yard] per carry and they both have over 1,000 yards and they're rookies and they can go the distance. They're blocking well. [Slaton] is a good player. He's a really good player and they probably expect him to be the franchise back for a number of years.

(On if the league has changed its perception of running backs now to the point where backs that used to be viewed as third-down backs are now every down backs)

Well, I think offenses are forcing defenses to loosen up just a little bit so that gives the quicker back a better opportunity to hit the crease. They're quick to do that and they've changed, philosophically, their run game and we all know that. It was only a matter of time because it's clearly, clearly working right now.
