HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER**
(on whether the offense had a better day Wednesday)
**
Yes, it was better. We caught the ball much better today than we did (yesterday). If you go through the offseason, you're going to have days where the defense is going to win, and the next day the offense will bounce back and they'll make their plays. So I thought it was a balanced practice.
(on whether offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger can take many of the off days by the offense)
**
You know, Dinger I think wore himself out yesterday. I didn't hear him say a word today.
(on transitioning to the new wedge rules on kickoff returns)
**
I think everybody is clearly going to deal with it the same. Most everybody uses some variation of at least a three-man wedge, maybe a four-man wedge, at times five. At the same time, they also had a change-up, where they used to just double-team. So they'll adjust. It's not going to be something that's going to be difficult to be officiated. It's very clear, and the reasons for the change are very obvious. There have been a lot of difficult hits to witness and injuries that have been associated with it. It may mean bringing back the little man inside, the little guy that can go down and cover and make plays.
(on what the team has seen from quarterback Patrick Ramsey)
**
He's done a good job. He has an advantage over someone else that just comes in here because he knows the system. He's familiar with the system, and so he's done a good job picking things up, and he's having fun.
(on bringing in Ramsey versus a younger quarterback)
**
He's not real old. He's got a lot of years left. He's got a good arm, and he's accurate. He's mobile, he's strong, and he's got good huddle presence and knows what he's doing. It'll be fun to watch him play this preseason.
(on how much rookie tight end Jared Cook has grasped the offense)
**
He's picking things up. He's not having any difficulty picking things up; I think we're overloading him a little bit. This has been a very good experience for him, especially coming back this last couple of weeks. He appears to be a guy that will go home for a week or two and digest the information, come back and move on. Some guys have a tendency to have to re-learn it; he doesn't. I'm sure those things will be beneficial for him.
(on the plan for the rookies and the rest of the team over the next month)
**
The draft choices will be attending the rookie symposium. They'll be leaving this weekend. The facility will be open, with the exception of the Fourth of July weekend through about the 15th, and then there's a dead period. So we can have supervised, voluntary workouts for a couple more weeks, and then there's a period where they can come in but it's unsupervised.
(on if he has any thoughts on Chris Johnson claiming he wants to retire the nickname "Smash and Dash")
**
No, I really don't. I'm sure they'll come up with something else, Dumb and Dumber or something. They'll think of something else.
(on Johnson saying he wants to be known as "Every Coach's Dream")
**
I wasn't aware that he made those comments … He didn't say anything to me about it.
(on if Johnson is every coach's dream)
**
Every coach's dream? With a few exceptions: playing the bongos, fumbling the ball and getting hurt in the playoff game.
(on Johnson's Twitter account)
**
I thought Twitter was a cartoon character on Tweety Bird. I don't know what Twitter is.
(on the offense's mishaps despite having a better day today)
**
There were some overthrown balls, some deflected balls. When you have five periods of seven-on-seven, there's going to be some balls that are bouncing around. So I'm not concerned. We're not ready for camp. We're not ready to play a preseason game yet. We're still learning, but we're correcting mistakes. We're not dwelling on the mistakes; we're moving forward. All in all, the conditioning level seems good, the enthusiasm's good, and it should be that as you wind down and you get into the last week of your OTAs.
(on if he looks at the roster and thinks he might have to release good players)
**
Well, it's a little early to be talking about that, but they'll be some players that are here that will end up on somebody's 53 (man roster).
(on how he can quantify how much better this year's team is than last year's squad)
**
No, I mean, I can't even say that we'll match the wins. I don't know. But I think overall, from a depth standpoint and a potential production standpoint, I think we're a little better.
(on what kind of player he considers every coach's dream)
**
From a coaching perspective, you're looking for a team-oriented guy that's dedicated, that's got unusual talent, somebody that's very, very gifted that can make plays but puts the team first.
(on Keith Bulluck declaring himself "king of the one-liners")
**
He's come up with a few over the years, yeah. He had one today during the two-minute drive, when the offense dropped two of Vince's passes. He said, 'Why don't you just throw it to them underhand?' I mean, he comes up with things all the time.
(on if Fisher finds Bulluck humorous)
**
Keith is Keith. He's going to talk, and he makes it fun. If he wasn't doing everything he's supposed to do and hadn't been in the position that he's in from production and games missed and things like that, it would be different. But you know he's always going to be there.
