NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kenny Britt passed a physical Tuesday, and the Titans took the receiver off the physically unable to perform list.
Britt, who has had three knee surgeries since tearing his ACL and MCL last September will join the active roster Wednesday, the Titans said.
He will not participate in the Titans game against New Orleans this Thursday and must wait three days before he can participate fully in a practice.
Britt has long targeted the Titans' season opener against New England on Sept. 9 as his goal for returning to the lineup.
He walked onto the practice field Tuesday afternoon, and instead of going through intense conditioning drills that he did during training camp, Britt high-fived teammates and watched them practice.
Britt, the Titans' 2009 first-round draft choice, has 101 catches for 1,765 yards and 15 touchdowns in three seasons. He started 2011 at a torrid pace with 14 catches for an AFC-leading 271 yards and had three TDs in the first two weeks of the season. The promising start, however, had an unsettling conclusion when Britt caught a short pass against Denver and suffered the injury in the third game.
