Titans RB Jackie Battle |
MIKE KEITH: I'll give you five…
- Left guard Andy Levitre: worker, smart, more athletic than I thought
- Defensive tackle Antonio "Mookie" Johnson: bigger than when he was here before (in a good way), strong and crafty. A great pairing with Sammie Hill, the newcomer at defensive tackle from Detroit. You can't move them.
- Tailback Chris Johnson: I don't want to waste your time, but he's just been fantastic.
- Tailback Jackie Battle: yep, I see what you see. Big and downhill. Noted to be good on special teams.
- Wide receiver Kendall Wright: weight loss, looks faster, a chance to be a 1000 yard receiver as a sophomore.
Henry in Sasebo, Japan: "My question is about our quarterback Jake Locker. I was excited when we drafted him because of his strong arm, athleticism and toughness. Last season he did ok, it was not spectacular but good for his first year as a starter with what he had to work with. Do you believe this is his year taking the next step with the revamped offensive line and weapons surrounding him?"
MIKE KEITH: I will be shocked if Jake Locker doesn't play much more effectively. I believe that he has improved. The players around him are better. But I think that Dowell Loggains' system will make the biggest difference. They are taking advantage of what Jake does best.
He can move around in the pocket. He can run. He is more comfortable.
The quarterback stat in this particular offense that matters is touchdowns to turnovers. Last year, Locker accounted for 11 touchdowns (10 passing and 1 rushing) and had 15 turnovers (11 interceptions and 4 lost fumbles). Not good. It must improve. I believe this system gives him a real opportunity to improve on that.
This season, that ratio goal should be 2 touchdowns to 1 turnover. A lot to ask, but a worthy goal.
Score inside the 20. Take care of the football.
If Jake Locker can do those things better, the Titans will win games. And the questions about him will end.
