The original Oilers helmet, circa 1960, was blue with a white stripe down the middle. The oil derrick logo was also white. Although the derrick itself remained, many subtle changes were made to the helmets over the years.

In 1964, two red stripes were added to the white striping on top of the helmet. Two years later, the helmet color was changed to silver with red and blue striping. The derrick, meanwhile, was changed to blue with a red outline and white background.

In 1972, the helmet color was switched back to blue with red and white striping, while the derrick was changed to white with a red outline.

Three years later, the helmet color was changed to its familiar white with red and blue striping. The derrick was then switched to blue with a red outline. The helmets boasted a gray facemask. In 1981, the facemask was switched to red.

In 1997, the Oilers added the Tennessee logo to the back of their helmet upon their relocation to Nashville. In 1999, the franchise unveiled a new logo as the team was renamed the Tennessee Titans.
