Wardmail

NASHVILLE – It's finally time.

Today is report date for the Titans, and tomorrow is the first practice of training camp.

It's about to get really busy.

Let's take a quick break for another mailbag.

Chris Malone from Indianapolis, Indiana
Question: Hey Jim. I have multiple questions if that's ok. I know the team mentioned more of an equal split and carries for Pollard and Spears this year. However, if I recall, that was the plan for last year as well. I don't recall that happening much even before Spears got injured. Do you see that actually happening this year?
I've liked what I've seen out of David Martin Robinson. Do you see him moving up the depth chart at all this year?
Do you know why the team traded away Kenneth Murray? He seemed to play well last year. Do you think it was a financial decision, one based upon attitude, or something else? Lastly, do you think Brownlee will end up being a starting corner this year?
Thank you for your time and answering these questions

Jim: Hey Chris. I'll tackle all these questions, one by one.
You're right – that was the talk regarding Pollard/Spears heading into last season as well, but things didn't play out that way. I do think the team is more focused on making that the reality this year, in part because Pollard was so banged up at the end of last year. Plus, Spears has looked good, and probably deserves more of a shot. I like DMR myself. I've said in here in the past I could see him being the third TE behind Chig Okonkwo and Gunnar Helm, but he's going to need a good camp. Josh Whyle needs to find a way to surge himself.
Kenneth Murray had some issues in coverage last year, and that contributed to his departure. Had nothing to do with his attitude – I thought his attitude was great. Yes, I think Brownlee will be a starting corner.

Preston Hartsell from Maryville, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim! Just want to say I appreciate all the hard work you do covering the Titans. I enjoy reading your mailbag every week and your insights. I've been reading up and watching a lot of film on Cam Ward. He's an exciting draft pick and I think he's going to help us get back to our winning ways sooner than later. I know it's early and they haven't started full practices yet but how does he compare to the other QBs on the roster? Is there a clear difference between his talents and football IQ to Will Levis? How have the veterans like Calvin Ridley welcomed Cam to the roster? And has Cam taken it upon himself to work into having a leadership role on the team? Thanks Jim.

Jim: Hey Preston. Appreciate it. Cam Ward is on track to be the team's starter, he just has to go out and earn it. I'm sure you've seen the Levis news by now – he's out of the equation because of upcoming shoulder surgery. Brandon Allen is in line to be the No.2, and Tim Boyle is behind him, most likely a practice squad candidate. Could another guy be added at some point? Well, we'll see. Calvin Ridley, by the way, has been great to Cam. He's invited Cam to his house on several occasions, and the two hang out regularly. As for Cam's leadership skills, he has what it takes as a leader, there's no question about that.

Jeremy Rodriguez from Winchester, California
Question: Hey Jim, hope all is well. Loving the breakdown by positions you are doing! They are some great reads. Not really a question today, just wishing Will Levis a speedy recovery and hope he comes back ready to compete wherever that may be. Have a great week and as always TITAN UP!!!

Jim: Appreciate it, Jeremy. When I start those position previews up, it's always a sign training camp is getting close. It's hard to believe they're now in the rear view mirror, and it's time for camp. I'm sure Will appreciates the well wishes.

Johnny Goodman from Old Hickory, Tennessee
Question: What training has Coach Callahan participated in this off-season to better his coaching skills?

Jim: Having a year under his belt should help Callahan. Not everything is new to him, and I think he learned from last year. Plus, I think his team will be more talented in 2025.

Cheyenne Brigance from Arlington, Tennessee
Question: Since time goes by so fast, I just want to say one thing, all I want for Christmas is the offensive line to BLOCK SOMEONE PLEASE! Thanks for all you do for Titans fans everywhere. Titan Up !!

Jim: Appreciate it, Cheyenne. Christmas in July, huh?

Oliver Wade from Raleigh, North Carolina
Question: Hey Jim. Since minicamp has ended, how has the DE/LB position looked? Especially Desmond Evans? I feel that with the right coaching he can help the team.

Jim: Hey Oliver. Femi Oladejo, Dre'Mont Jones and Arden Key are the team's top three DE/OLBs, with Ali Gaye and Jaylen Harrell battling behind them. I like Harrell, and he flashed as a rookie. Evans and others will have a chance to prove themselves in camp, when the pads come on.

Jack Walker from Calabasas, California
Question: Hey Jim... We're getting there. It's kinda weird this season, I'm just not excited. I just can't help but feel like the draft was a mistake. Intentionally I skip any media coverage of Adbul Carter and Travis Hunter because I understand either one could have been ours along with another R2 pick in April plus a R1 in 2026. Titans brass have pushed all the chips to the center of the poker table.
An incredible risk... Even if Ward becomes a "league average QB" there will always be pro bowlers from the 25 draft picked after him.
I know what they say about hindsight... But Carter, Burden III and Ersery plus a 26 R1 wouldn't have been punishment.

Jim: Get over it, Jack.

Anthony Anthamatten from Springfield, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim. Though I've lived in Nashville for 26 years, I'm originally from Memphis—and I still remember those early Titans games played to nearly empty stadiums. It was a rough time. Memphis felt like a stepchild while the Titans used their stadium as a stopover before the move to Nashville.
But through thick and thin, win or lose, I've always enjoyed this team. One of my favorite moments? When Bud Adams flipped off the Houston Texans on live TV—costing him $250,000. That gesture may have been costly, but to fans like me, it was priceless.
To the Debbie Downers: this is a new season. Even if we end up at the bottom again, I'll still be a Titans fan. I understand it's a building process, and I stand behind our owner, management, coaches, and every professional who steps onto that field in Titan blue, striving to be the best they can be.
These athletes are rare. They've earned their place through grit, dedication, and monumentally hard work to compete at the highest level.
Nobody wants to lose or finish last—but every setback is a chance to improve. I encourage the doubters to give this team a chance. Support them on the tough days as well as the great ones. I believe the best days for this franchise are ahead.

Jim: I like the attitude, Anthony!

Richard Robles from Springfield, Tennessee
Question: On how we will win the games will be like that Cam Ward's magic will continue to grow by getting first 8 wins and then getting 2 more wins, That's how we're going to do. We'll see if we get to the Playoffs, The keys to the season will be: Play With Stamina and Be Stronger!
Titan Up!

Jim: Back-to-back from Springfield!

Tommy Henley from Cookeville, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim hope everything is going good for you and the family. I know you get there with the players during mini camp, an it gets Hot I no. I just wanted to know how my guy is doing? Mr. reliable, Xavier Restrepo, only you no how well he's been playing an I no you'll no more once the pads go on, but I heard Xavier went to a WR. camp in Miami I think that some of the top WR got together to me that says a lot, I'm really pulling for this kid I truly believe he's gonna be a top WR in the NFL, so can't wait till the pads go on, an see how he does with DBs covering em, but I think we've got a super WR room between him Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett Bryce Oliver an the rookie they drafted outta Stanford, did you see the game between Stanford an Colorado Travis Hunter couldn't keep this kid from making phenomenal plays . Ok Elic Ayomanor I found his name, but he looks like he's gonna be a beast, so just asking your opinion on Xavier Restrepo, think he's got a chance of making 53 man roster? An when will the decision be made who will be on the roster? An one more question probably to early to make a accurate opinion, but how's our offense line looking like. I really hope Bill Callahan gets those guys jelled together so to say , but anyway like to hear your opinions an thanks again Jim. Try to keep yourself hydrated out there buddy. Can't wait till Late August gets here GO TITANS BABY!!

Jim: All is good, Tommy. Restrepo had a great offseason. Now, he needs to follow it up when the pads come on in training camp. Jobs aren't won in May and June, they're won in late July and August. … As for the o-line, it was good in the offseason, but we'll get a better idea when the pads come on.

Have a great week everyone!
